Scheduled for July 17, 2025 on Nintendo Switch 2,, Donkey Kong Bananza is undoubtedly One of the most anticipated games on the new console. Back to 3D of the iconic gorilla, explosive artistic direction, destructible gameplay … Everything seemed to be together for a technical demonstration of the new console. But a few days before its release, a detail challenges: Nintendo openly assumes that certain scenes will cause decreases of framerate. An assumed choice, defended by the development team.

It’s now official: Donkey Kong Bananzawhich is released on July 17, 2025 on Switch 2, will not always run at 60 frames per second. During the most loaded sequences in visual effects – massive destruction, dynamic slow motion, multiple collisions -, the framerate will fall slightly. No bug, no forgetfulness in development: this is a choice of design assumed by the teams.
In a declaration published by GamesradarKazuya Takahashi, director of the game, explains:
We are well aware that certain scenes lead to a temporary drop in the framerate. But we have made the choice to favor the pleasure of play and the readability of the action. Fun passes above all.
This posture may surprise, especially coming from Nintendo, historically very horseshole on the technical stability of its titles. But it is not so unusual: even blockbusters like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Or Bayonetta 3 have experienced variations in images per second, without altering the global experience.
A technical and logical decision
The engine of the game, strongly oriented towards Voxel physics, manages dozens of destructible objects in real time. Combined with the spectacular transformations of the character (zebra, ostrich, drill, etc.), this creates a visual cocktail difficult to stabilize without compromise on animation. Rather than sacrificing these effects – which make the very identity of Bananza -, the developers have chosen to keep all the intensity, even if the framework is decreasing punctually.
Anyway, it remains for a long time to wait to make a controller opinion in hand: Donkey Kong Bananza Looked on July 17, 2025, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, at the recommended price of € 69.99 on the eShop and € 59.99 at some resellers. It remains to be seen if this technical bias will be perceived as a detail or as a defect.
