Operation of the price board

From The Switch 2 releasesome reports go back on screens displaying a permanent colorful point: red, blue, green or white, always in the same place. It is a frozen pixel, a typical defect in LCD tiles. The phenomenon remains a priori marginal – and to be clear, none of our copy test copies presented this behavior – but it is sufficiently reported to deserve a technical response.

Switch 2: frozen pixels reported by some players, what to do?

On an LCD screen like that of the Switch 2each pixel is made up of three subpixels: red, green and blue. When one of these sub-pixels remains blocked in the “on” position, it displays a fixed color. It is not a dead pixel (permanent black, without light emission), but a frozen pixel, still active but poorly refreshed.

In the majority of cases, the point remains visible on a black background, but disappears completely on clear scenes – which is enough to make it extremely annoying in dark games. The good news is that this kind of defect is not always permanent: it happens that a frozen pixel returns to normal after several hours of use.

If the problem is not solved itself, know that some videos or applications quickly continue the changes in colors, in the hope of unlocking the faulty sub-pixel. Only concern, The Nintendo Switch 2 does not (yet) support the YouTube application Nor other third -party applications, or streaming. However, there are more hazardous physical techniques, consisting in exerting light pressure on the area concerned with a soft cloth. Nothing is guaranteed, and these manipulations, so poorly made, can worsen the situation.

Nintendo, like most manufacturers, considers that a small number of defective pixels on a screen is in “manufacturing tolerance”. This type of defect is therefore not automatically covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Clearly: if a frozen pixel appears on your switch 2, Nintendo will only replace it if the defect is considered significant enough to harm the normal use of the console.

On the other hand, French law protects you better: if you have Buy your Switch 2 onlineyou have a right of withdrawal of 14 days, without having to justify the reason for the return. This right is much more effective than any manufacturer’s guarantee, and allows you to obtain an exchange or a full refund if the Pixel really bothers you.

For a store purchase, this will depend on the reseller’s conditions. Some will accept an exchange by commercial gesture, others not.

At this point, nothing suggests that this problem is widespread. At the editorial staff, none of our copies are concerned. But if you notice a frozen point on your screen, you now know what it is – and above all, what you can try to remedy it.
