The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 is imminent. Pending June 5, the console continues to reveal its last secrets. Today, it is its new system allowing you to play and chat with your friends, the GameChat, accessible via the new C console button, which is in the spotlight. According to the User Oatmealdome on the Bluesky social network, supporting captures, Nintendo would not have forgotten accessibility for people in need.
The GameChat of the Nintendo Switch 2 does not forget accessibility
Two features are thus highlighted. The first comes to think of people who cannot speak: text-to-speech. As its name suggests, this tool uses text typed by the user to transform it orally by a voice. It remains to be hoped that, as for the first switch, USB keyboards will be supported to fully take advantage of this functionality, writing on virtual keyboard that can be slow and tedious.
The second accessibility feature integrated into the GameChat is the opposite of the first, since it is the automatic subtitling of what is said orally on the vocal chat. Practical for deaf people or for players to play without sound, especially since the pronounced text displayed in a cat window is linked to the avatar of the speaking player.
Free until March 31, 2026, GameChat, compatible with 12 players to the maximum, will then require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to be used. In addition, if a microphone is integrated into the Nintendo Switch 2, to show its face via GameChat it will be necessary to buy an optional camera.
