It’s not justAnker And Xiaomi who encounter battery problems in 2025. Tesla, already recently at the heart of a recall of 13,000 electric vehicleshas just extended a campaign affecting its Powerwall 2 domestic batteries.

Tesla plays it safe with its Powerwall 2

Started in Australia last September, this recall campaign now concerns the United States and more than 10,000 Powerwall 2 batteries. These were sold between November 2020 and December 2022 via the Tesla site and certified installers. Powerwall 3s are therefore not affected.

These models have a defect in a third-party battery cell, which may stop functioning properly and result in overheating, and in some cases smoke and flames which can cause minor damage. 22 reports were received by the company (including five of fire), which has also decided to remotely drain the batteries concerned as a safety measure.

Tesla offers to replace these defective Powerwalls free of charge and contacts customers via their mobile app to notify them. Appointments with certified installers will then be set up.

In France, we had to wait this summer and 10 years for the Tesla battery, in generation 3 (the Powerwall 3), to finally arrive. For the record, this 13.5 kWh battery allows you to store excess energy from the network or solar panels in order to act as emergency power or a charging source for, for example… your Tesla.
