Samsung Electronics won a massive contract to provide Tesla with his future chips dedicated to Artificial intelligence embedded. The South Korean giant, who hitherto kept the name of his client in silence for reasons of “Commercial confidentiality”was publicly named … by Elon Musk himself.
It is the AI6 chip, the following generation of the digital brains of Tesla, which will be at the heart of this partnership. And it will be produced in the new Texan factory in Samsung. The calendar is clear: production this summer, delivery until 2033. In parallel, AI5 (already finalized) will be entrusted to TSMC, Taiwan then in Arizona.

“The new giant Samsung factory in Texas will be dedicated to the manufacture of the next generation of Tesla AI chip. The strategic importance of this is difficult to overestimate. Samsung is currently manufacturing AI4. TSMC will manufacture AI5, which has just been finalized, first in Taiwan and then in Arizona. Samsung accepted that Tesla is participating in optimizing manufacturing efficiency. This is a crucial point, because I myself will walk on the production line to accelerate the pace of progress.
Samsung, looking for reconquest on the semiconductor market for AI, needs this boost. Shaken by SK Hynix on HBM Memoirs and shot recently by Nvidia, the group here plays a major card on logical fleas. As for Tesla, it is one more step towards an autonomy always more managed by its own algorithms.
The contract, which runs until the end of 2033, remains partially secret. Samsung recalls in its deposit that the details could evolve, and invites its shareholders to “Investing carefully”. Caution ? Maybe. But Musk is moving forward, and intends to supervise each step. Literally.
