Tesla has published a video of its Full Self-Driving system on this intersection and the results are surprising in terms of fluidity. The autonomous vehicle navigates with insurance from one roundabout to another, gives way when necessary, then accelerates to reach the next section.

The images show Tesla’s autonomous vehicle crossing the Magic Roundabout several times without ever appearing hesitant. Autonomous driving is naturally integrated into the flow of traffic, even if it is possible that Tesla only diffuses successful sequences.

The demonstration made by Tesla is done as part of a wider campaign to convince European regulators. The company has been publishing videos of its technology for several weeks which sails in places deemed difficult in Europe, in particular the roundabout of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris or the narrow alleys of Rome.

The message for the European authorities is clear: the full self-driving is ready for a deployment on the old continent, but regulators prefer to take their time before authorizing the deployment of this technology.

A very different wait from the United States where the full self-driving is already available. In Europe, it is only Mercedes-Benz which offers a free driving, but that for certain portions of German motorways in specific conditions. Tesla’s full self-driving authorization is therefore long overdue and may never be available.

Elon Musk does not hide his annoyance in the face of these European regulatory deadlines. The billionaire regularly uses his platform X to express his disapproval of what he deems is an administrative slowness.

During the recent quarterly results conference, the businessman said he was confident that the full self-driving would go from the mode “Supervised” in mode “Not supervised” By the end of 2025 in Europe. But let’s not forget that Elon Musk is always (very) optimistic.

European authorization is of crucial importance for Tesla which abandons its image of simple electric car manufacturer to position itself as a company which offers autonomous driving, robotics and AI. After all, for several weeks, Tesla Robotaxis are available in Austin.
