Videoconferences, aka video calls, are video calls that have become commonplace in recent years — especially since the Covid period and the advent of teleworking. For those who are tired of dressing up to be as professional as possible, Google Meet has added a very practical option for getting a makeover.

Makeup and AI for Meet, Google’s new idea for your videos

In a blog post published at the beginning of the week, Google announced more precisely the addition of an option “Makeup” to its famous Meet videoconferencing tool. In total, 12 styles are available, ranging from dark proposals to much lighter shades.

To achieve this, the Mountain View firm unsurprisingly used artificial intelligence. To make things even more realistic, we also discover that this new function cannot be fooled by any element displayed in the foreground.

One of the short videos of Google also shows one of the company’s product managers presenting a style, with makeup that remains as it is even when she holds a cup of coffee in front of her face or partially covers it with her hands.

Unsurprisingly, this new feature is reserved for Google Workspace users, with the added bonus of accessibility for Google One subscribers. To find this new option, simply go to the tab “Appearance”. From then on, it will be possible to apply makeup by selecting one of the styles offered.

Please note, the last style applied will be used by default during the next videoconference – which encourages caution before joining a call, otherwise there will be some surprises on the screen for your interlocutors if the previous makeup chosen turns out to be a little too pronounced.

Google Meet thus takes the personalization of videos a little further, with makeup filters aimed at alleviating social pressure during these daily video calls in the world of work.
