A few days after the release of the first trailer for Super Mario GalaxyNintendo has lifted the veil on the other adaptation of one of its cult franchises currently in the pipeline: The Legend of Zelda. The Japanese firm has in fact released three first images from the film, with a glimpse of the main characters of Link and Zelda.

Welcome to Hyrule

Currently filming in New Zealand, the feature film had remained relatively mysterious until now. But the first videos of the actors on stage captured by curious onlookers were released this weekend on the Internet. A “leak” which undoubtedly pushed Nintendo to deliver these official images, via its new Nintendo Today application.

In these photos, we can see the actress Bo Bragason (Renegade Nell), incarnation of Zelda, in her famous blue costume and armed with her bow and arrows.

Link’s interpreter, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor), is at his side in his green costume, also sporting the ears typical of the people of Hyrule.

If the plot of the film still remains very mysterious, these first images (and the costumes) therefore suggest a mixture of the stories of several games, including Breath of the Wild (released in 2017) and Twilight Princess (2016), in particular to reveal the formidable Ganon.

Unlike the animated film Super Mario Bros.and following it Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda is therefore an adaptation in real shots (or so-called “live action”).

This Nintendo and Sony co-production is headed by producers Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto. The film is directed by Wes Ball (The Labyrinth, Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom) and written by Derek Connolly (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, Kong: Skull Island) and TS Nowlin.

Announced in 2023, this adaptation was initially due to be released in March 2027, before being pushed back a few weeks. The movie The Legend of Zelda is finally expected in cinemas on May 7, 2027.
