The TCL Z100 speaker reinvents wireless home cinema thanks to FlexConnect technology
After several years of development, TCL finally reveals the Z100, the very first Dolby Atmosconnect compatible wireless speaker. Its principle is based on an ability to receive Dolby Atmos three -dimensional audio flows from a compatible source, without the constraint of the cables or additional HDMI boxes.
Dolby AMTOS technology reserved for TCL ecosystem
This is not the first time that we have heard about this famous house technology from Dolby. Indeed, FlexConnect had been presented during these 2024s as a standard future for the home cinema. At that time, the project was to integrate technology within the speakers of different manufacturers, in order to allow the user to modulate his home cinema system as he pleases.
Dolby’s strategy seems to have changed, however, because FlexConnect is today exclusive to TCL mini LED TVs from the latest generation (C6K, C7K, C8K, C9K and X11K). The happy owner of one of them can then obtain up to four TCL Z100 speakers to build a Dolby Atmos system according to his needs, according to his space and his listening position. The main difference with a system such as the Sony Quad It remains that each speaker communicates directly with the TV, using a owner protocol, not via an intermediate hub. This therefore limits the number of elements making up the system.
From 2 to 4 speakers arranged around the listening position
Among the possible configurations, the user can, for example, install only two frontal speakers or at the back of the scene, or create a sound bubble using four units placed on both sides of the listening position. In addition, thanks to an automatic calibration system, FlexConnect is able to locate the speakers to assign an optimal tone according to their position in the room. The acoustic constraints are then greatly reduced, even if the speakers are placed asymmetrically or near a wall.
Each TCL Z100 speaker consists of a pair of front loudspeakers, a woofer and a channel oriented vertically dedicated to the three-dimensional aerial effects. The whole is powered by an amplification developing 170 watts. As part of a system made up of four speakers, TCL promises a multi -channel restitution “worthy of a system 5.1.2 or 7.1.4“Note that the TCL Z100 can also be used alone as a domestic entertainment, thanks to its Bluetooth receiver.
The TCL Z100 speaker will be available in early July in a single metallic black finish at a price of € 249. In short, a system made up of four units would amount to around € 1,000, a less expensive price compared to competitors such as the Sony Quad or the Hisense ht Saturnrespectively offered at € 2400 and 1500. Nevertheless, the weaknesses of this TCL solution compared to the latter remains the absence of a subwoofer and of course its exclusivity to TCL televisions.
