Description
Which was originally a conflict on the transfer of consciousness of the flesh to the machine degenerated into a total war. The Core and the Arm engage in an endless showdown which has devastated a million planets and exhausted almost all the resources of a galaxy. Despite the colossal losses suffered by the two camps, what remains of their armies continues the fight on ravaged planets, their hatred fueled by more than four thousand years of conflict. It is a death fight. For each camp, the only acceptable outcome is the total elimination of the other.
Total Annihilation (TA) is a real -time strategy game (STR) created by Cavedog Entertainment under the direction of the main designer Chris Taylor. Released on September 30, 1997, it was the first STR to offer 3D units and land. He received two extensions: The Core contingency (counterattack in French version) on April 30, 1998, then Battle Tactics (strategic battles) precisely 2 months later, on June 30, 1998. At the end of the game, it was at least a Pentium processor clocked at 100 MHz and 16 MB of RAM to make it run. A minimum configuration quite high for the time which of course will not pose any problem for modern machines, but a 1 GHz and 512 MB RAM processor remains recommended to launch the updated game engine.
In the distant future, the galaxy is led by a cenacle of humans and artificial intelligences called the core (contraction of “consciousness restitory”, “archive of conscience”). The technological and economic triumphs of the Core allowed humanity to colonize most of the Milky Way, leading to an era of peace and prosperity. Alas, this balance is broken by a technological advance allowing to transfer without risk the consciousness of a human being to a machine, which makes it theoretically immortal. When the Core imposes on humanity a measure of “public health” forcing each person to submit to this procedure, rebels refusing to leave their bodies to join the core machines form an alliance in the colonies on the borders of a spiral arm of the galaxy (hence its name: the Arm). It follows 4,000 years of war between ARM which produces chain clones for its pilots, and the core which duplicates micropuces endowed with consciousness to pilot its own machines.
Includes Total Annihilation as well as its two extensions: The Core contingency and Battle Tactics.
A timeless classic hailed by more than 57 awards!
Spectacular fights between hundreds of units, accompanied by a frantic soundtrack signed Jeremy Soule, more hundreds of available mods.
Buildings and units totally articulated in 3D with a large panel of choice: aerial units, amphibious tanks, infantry robots (Kbots), vehicles, aerogleners, ships, submarines, units production factories, powerful stationary and long-range weapons. A unique monitoring function allows players to follow a specific unit, an entire army or even a projectile through the environment.
Real 3D terrains that units can climb, use as protection or bypass, on very large cards generated in 3D. You are completely comfortable in high resolution and even on modern double -screen configurations, to see a larger part of the battlefield.
Many types of environments: meadows, forests, deserts, archipelagos, high seas, lava, metal, ice, crystal, acid and even moons.
More than 150 official units and 25 official missions per camp in the solo campaign. The core contingency extension adds 75 units (including the infamous kogoth), 50 cards, 25 missions and 6 types of environments. Battle Tactics adds 4 units, 6 cards and 100 missions. A final patch (version 3.1C, included here) adds 6 units, including a resurrection kot!
Detailed and breathless campaigns focused on the respective chiefs of each camp, the commanders. Whether you choose the Core or the Arm, the story begins with the defense of the native planet of the protagonist who marks a turning point in the war, followed by a series of battles on various planets and moons (thanks to galactic portals, a form of supreluminic transport), before the final assault against the enemy mother planet (Empyrean the bucolic for arm, or the artificial world of core The Cortex Jupiter for Core). The missions consist, for example, protecting a building or a strategic area, capturing a crucial enemy unit, or simply eliminating all opposing units. More powerful units and weapons are gradually unlocking over the countryside, after certain events or missions.
Solo skirmishes and total multiplayer compatibility: you can join battles or attend a spectator, train allied teams to pool your resources, information and units.
A very advanced arsenal: lasers, energy machine guns, stellar missiles, plasma shells, lightning impulses, paralysis or nuclear warheads.
Variables such as gravity, tides and wind harm the effectiveness of certain types of weapons or improve resource production.
A dimension of espionage: radars and sonars to detect or blur enemy units, camouflage or furtive shielding of the units, or even the possibility of resuscitating the wrecks of destroyed units.
