Ultra light and versatile: Discover the new 35mm F1.2 Lab for Sony Viltrox F1.2
After the already very noticed AF 135 mm F1.8 Lab Released at the end of last year, we discover the new member of the LAB range of the Chinese third -party optics manufacturer Viltrox. It is a 35mm focal length, perfect for the report but also interesting in portrait, landscape, astro, see even architecture. This new 35 mm is pulled in mount E and is therefore compatible with the Sony APS-C hybrids and 24×36 mm. Used on an APS-C hybrid, it is then equivalent to a 52.5 mm (conversion coefficient of 1.5x).

Lab range obliges, this lens is very bright and offers a maximum opening of F1.2 associated with an 11 strip diaphragm: an ideal configuration for playing with the depth effects of field and obtaining a particularly marked bokeh. In addition, this ultra large opening is an argument for photos and videos in low indoor or night light conditions.

The Viltrox AF 35 mm F1.2 LAB operates an ambitious optical formula composed of 15 lenses divided into 10 groups with 5 ED glasses with low dispersion to limit chromatic aberrations and 3 high refraction index glasses to minimize the distortions and optimize the dive. The MTF curves displayed by the manufacturer are very promising. The objective should deliver extremely stung images from the center to the edges and all openings. Of course, tests will have to confirm the performance of the objective.

Autofocus is provided by an ultra -fast, precise and silent hypervcm engine. The objective offers a minimum focusing distance of 34 cm which opens the door to large magnifications up to 0.17x for close photos. Finally, the objective is designed to minimize the Focus Breathing phenomenon.

Ergonomics level, there is a small LCD screen on which the focusing distance, the focusing mode and the selected opening is displayed. This screen recalls the one offered at one time by Zeiss on his optics of the Batis series. There is a manual focusing ring and a diaphragm ring that it is possible to “set” thanks to a switch. We also have two customizable buttons.

For the rest, this objective enjoys weather protection with waterproofing joints. We also find at the level of the frame the presence of a USB-C port for firmware updates. The objective weighs 910g and measures approximately 12 cm long for 9 cm in diameter (filters of 77 mm).
Availability and price
The new Viltrox AF 35 mm F1.2 LAB in Sony E mount is offered at a price of € 1099. He naturally competes with the Sigma 35mm F1.2 DG DN | Art which is offered to him at the price of around 1500 euros. Note that Sony does not offer in its 35 mm F1.2 range.
