Windows 10: Microsoft publishes an emergency update for Intel PCs blocked by Bitlocker
Microsoft discreetly drawn an emergency fix for Windows 10, in response to a critical bug introduced by the security update of May 2025. This failure, linked to Bitlocker and Intel VPro processors, prevented certain machines from starting normally. KB5061768 therefore extinguishes the fire.
Bitlocker problem on Windows 10? Microsoft has published a correction
The problem comes from a dysfunction of the LSASSS service (Local Security Authority Subsystem Service) on machines with Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) technology, present on the Intel processors of 10th generation and subsequent (Intel Core i7-11700k,, Intel Core i5-13600ketc., the list is long). After installing the KB5058379 update, some of these machines automatically entered the BitLocker recovery mode, blocking any classic starting attempt.
Microsoft, a awareness of emergency, published an out-of-cycle (out-of-band) update, stamped KB5061768 on May 19, 2025. It is only available via the Microsoft Update Catalog, which means that no automatic deployment is provided via Windows Update. Users must therefore install it manually.
The rescue procedure, for machines already affected, consists in temporarily deactivating Intel VT for direct I/O (VTD or VTX) as well as TXT in the BIOS/UEFI, restart with the Bitlocker recovery key, install the update, then reactivate the options in the BIOS.
This rustine therefore corrects a unique but serious bug. Microsoft specifies that those who have not yet installed KB5058379 can be content to apply KB5061768, thus avoiding any risk. Only downside: the update leads to an anomaly on certain display fonts (notably noto) with fuzzy texts in Chrome and Edge on the systems configured in 100 % scaling. A corrective is being analyzed.
