Since the last update of Windows 11 (Build 26100.4202 and following), a novelty went unnoticed annoys: the automatic activation of Dolby Vision on certain HDR compatible screens. Result, after each reboot, the display turns green and purple on part of the configurations, in particular the PCs with Intel GPU or certain poorly calibrated OLED screens for this format.

Windows 11: The screen becomes green and purple in the boot, the fault of Dolby Vision

Since the end of May 2025, thanks to the build 26100.4202/26120.x, it is fortunately and now possible to only uncheck Dolby Vision, while keeping the classic HDR activated. If you do not see the switch, it is likely that your Windows version is not yet up to date or that your screen is not recognized as Dolby Vision compatible.

To deactivate this option (and find normal colors), open the settings → System → Display, then click on your main screen. In the HDR section, click HDR, on the Dolby Vision option, and deactivate it.

  1. Open Windows settings (Windows + I)
  2. Click on system, then on display
  3. Select your main screen
  4. Click HDR to access advanced settings
  5. Disable the “Use the Dolby Vision” mode option
  6. Close the parameters.

But the bug does not stop there: on some PCs, as one of our editorial staff (on a screen LG OLED 42 C2 and a RTX 5080), Dolby Vision reactivates on its own at each start. The temporary parade consists in redoing the deactivation manually after each restart… or uninstalling the last update of Windows 11 via settings → System → Recovery → Return to the previous version.

Another possible cause: a graphics pilot not up to date. One passage through the manufacturer’s site (Intel, NVIDIA or AMD) allows you to install the latest stable versions. And in some cases, this is enough to resolve colorimetric aberrations. However, this did not work on our side.

While waiting for a real Microsoft fix, it is better to keep an eye on HDR options and stay ready to deactivate Dolby Vision after each restart, since Windows 11 systematically reactivates-transforming the screen into post-modern watercolor with each boot.
