Windows 11 Blocked at start -up? The KB5058405 update in question

The alert appeared after The Tuesday Patch of May, which in particular corrects HDR management. According to Microsoft, the safety update KB5058405 can prevent the start of the machines running under Windows 11 versions 10:2 p.m. and 11:2 p.m. The concern? An error linked to the ACPI.SYS system file, essential for power management and the configuration of peripherals on ACPI compatible BIOS.

This failure is reflected in the error code 0xC0000098. It mainly affects professional environments, including Azure virtual machines, virtual desktop azure positions, and local VMs hosted via Citrix or Hyper-V. The domestic versions of Windows (Home and Pro) have “Little chance of being affected”according to Microsoft, but some people say already be affected.

The publisher actively investigates to determine the exact origin of the malfunction. In the meantime, the teams advise not to deploy this update on critical environments based on virtual machines, as long as a correction has not been published.

It must be said that this is not a first. This bug is added to a series of recent hiccups: updates blocked via WSUS, Restarts in loop on Windows 10 because of Bitlockeror even mounted forced version despite intune policies. In short, the reliability of the update cycle at Microsoft arouses increased vigilance and especially in business.
