Windows 11: The Hey Copilot voice command is on track

Intensive Copilot users on Windows 11 can be happy: Microsoft is inspired by what is done in competition to always use its IA agent. An option will indeed enter the Copilot application for, as was the case with the late Cortana, start a conversation with artificial intelligence by voice via a simple “Hey Copilot” command.

As always with Microsoft, this new feature is first deployed with the Windows Insiders, responsible for testing the new features before their possible global deployment. If you are part of the testers, just update the Copilot application via the Microsoft Store (version 1.25051.10.0). For the moment, only the English language is supported.

The main good news is that this feature, which therefore asks Windows to permanently listen to your microphone, is optional. To activate it, head for Copilot settings (via your avatar at the bottom left). In addition, to be able to function, this “Hey Copilot” command claims that the PC be unlocked, and that the application will obviously be launched, including in the background.

As soon as the sentence (alone or accompanied by a question) is detected, the Copilot interface with a microphone appears on the screen. To put an end to a conversation, just click on the X of this window, or wait a few seconds without speaking. Sounds and animations are there to indicate when interactions take place with Copilot.

Microsoft promises that detection of the keyword is only done locally, and that the content heard during the 10 seconds around the keyword is not recorded. The voice command therefore operates in offline, but the request will not be able to achieve for lack of internet access.
