Windows 11: The last update finally corrects the very capricious HDR management
For years, activating HDR in Windows returned to play Russian roulette: between tired colors on the desk, flinged screenshots and unequal compatibility with apps, the experience frustrated more than it was emerging. With the KB5058499 update, Microsoft finally seems to have heard criticism.
New smarter HDR management in Windows 11
The big change? You can now deactivate HDR on a system scale … while letting HDR videos are normally displayed. No need to have the HDR activated everywhere to enjoy a film in Dolby Vision on Netflix Or a radiant 4K video on YouTube. Windows becomes able to differentiate between the interface and the content.
Better still, Dolby Vision does not activate automatically as soon as a compatible screen is connected. You now have your hand: a small switch in the settings allows you to activate it only when you want. Flexibility that was sorely missing so far.
This development is particularly welcome for people who use capture or streaming tools, often unable to properly manage HDR. Result: dull images, unusable recordings … Now, we can deactivate HDR for the whole system, while retaining a fluid and faithful HDR display on compatible content. It is finally consistent.
Of course, all this does not solve all the problems. Windows HDR remains a capricious field, especially on the game side. But this update brings real comfort of use on a daily basis, and it’s already not bad.
