X asks for your age but only if you want to see certain publications

For several weeks, the Pornographic sites like pornhub retired in opposition to the French government which requests to verify the age of Internet users.

X checks age to access pornographic content

France has been intensifying its age controls for several months, and X complies. The platform is renowned for its easily accessible pornographic content, and now it will be necessary to prove its majority to access it.

Two verification options are available to X users who wish to access adult content:

• Sending a selfie analyzed by IA
• Sending an identity document

Solutions already used on other platforms which are subject to the same legal obligations, in particular pornographic sites or even Onlyfans. However, it is good to specify that all users have the possibility of creating an account on X without age verification.

It is only for access to the pornographic content that proof of majority is requested. The accounts whose identity has not been verified therefore have access to most of the platform.

But nothing says that X will limit age control only to check if the user will be able to access adult content. It is possible that, to comply with the French requirements wanted by Emmanuel Macron, the restriction is applied to the entire social network.

Some stand against this age verification in France but also in several countries as in the United Kingdom where minors no longer have access to titles deemed explicit on Spotify. We are talking about risk in terms of privacy, especially for access to adult content.

X therefore decides to comply but in part to the requirements of the French government which could lighten the vice. And if, in the long term, all the social networks present in France allowed only to adults to access it? Nothing impossible.
