The very insensitive advice of an Xbox leader
Following this very dark day for thousands of employees, a leader of Microsoft shared a particularly awkward advice: that licensed employees turn to AI to obtain emotional support.
Matt Turnbull, executive producer at Xbox Game Studios Publishing, published a message on LinkedIn where he explains that he “would be negligent not to try to offer the best possible advice to dismissed people in this difficult moment”.
So said like that, we imagine that this is a joke of April 1 in advance and that a manager of a multinational could not share such a ground and insensitive advice. And yet the media Aftermath made a screenshot before the final deletion of the position. As a reminder, Matt Turnbull has 25 years of professional experience, including 15 years at Microsoft.
During the year, Microsoft dismissed no less than 15,000 people. So it might be preferable for leaders to remain discreet and avoid this kind of publication which shows the gap between management and reality experienced by employees affected by these massive restructuring.
