Xbox Series: Micromania increases the prices of Microsoft consoles

Being a fan of video games in 2025 is expensive. Between the high price of the future Nintendo Switch 2the delirious price of PC components, or even AAA games increasingly billed around € 70, it is a hobby certainly affected by inflation and delicacy of large companies. And, according to the discovery this May 1 of our colleagues from Gamekult, it should not calm down right away.

In any case, at Micromania the Xbox Series consoles have just taken € 50 without warning.

A generalized increase or limited to micromania?

This increase is added to that of € 50 already practiced in June 2023 at the Xbox Series X, following the increase of 50 € of the PlayStation 5 by Sony. Now, a Xbox Series X is therefore billed at Micromania at € 599.99 (against € 549.99 before and elsewhere), while the Xbox Series S is € 349.99, against € 299.99.

For the moment, old prices are still in force on the Microsoft site and in competition. It remains to be seen if it is a limited increase to micromania, or a generalized increase which takes time to deploy. The second hypothesis remains the most likely, and offering a PlayStation 5 with reader therefore seems today to be a slightly more reasonable investment.

What future for Micromania?

Regularly in difficulty, let us recall that Micromania and its shops have been for sale since March 2025 following its abandonment by the American Game Stop, owner since 2008. Its employees do not yet know what their future will be, and it is a safe bet that such new high prices will not attract crowds to save the brand.

Likewise, this certainly should not help Microsoft to catch up in the sale of living room consoles. The latest estimates at the end of 2024 mentioned around 75 million PlayStation 5 sold against 25 million Xbox Series.
