Xpeng about to correct one of the main faults of its electric cars against Tesla

Xpeng is undoubtedly the best placed manufacturer to compete with Tesla. This Chinese brand launched in 2014 and arrived last year in France is inspired by the productions of the American firm, but with a more open approach and attentive to its customers, while betting on record times.

Thomas Rodier, Marketing Director of Xpeng France, explains to us that the brand notably won its first French customers with Tesla, but recognizes, however, that some still blocks some. This brake is the absence of a real “One Pedal” mode at Xpeng, while Tesla offers it, like many other electric car manufacturers, such as Hyundai, Kia, MG or Renault recently.

The driving function at a pedal has become a must for the electric car for many electromobilists. It makes it possible not to touch the brake pedal in the majority of situations, thanks to a very large energy recovery at the sunrise which, coupled with the friction braking system, comes to keep the vehicle stopped.

Xpeng offers a similar function, named X-Pedal, with a significant deceleration at the sunrise. Nevertheless, it does not go as far as the total stop of the vehicle, which crawls at around 1 km/h, against a crawling speed of around 6 km/h with the other three energy recovery modes. It is therefore necessary to touch the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, without necessarily maintaining its foot there thanks to the HOLD AUTO function. If this nuance may seem to be a detail, it is true that this behavior is quite destabilizing, especially when we have already used a real “One Pedal” function.

If Xpeng had made this choice, it was because of a legal vagueness surrounding this technology on the Chinese market. However, the brand was able to develop a real driving function to a pedal, which it will deploy in France “At the end of 2025” On his G6 and G9, Thomas Rodier said to us. All Xpeng electric vehicles already delivered will be able to take advantage of this remote update (OTA).

With this update, Xpeng will correct one of the main defects of its vehicles against Tesla, which it has already fully inspired. The brand’s cars thus offer an animal mode, an automatic parking function remotely, a sentinel mode and recently an integrated Dashcam function, as the Tesla are equipped.
