A voice, a thousand faces: the heritage of Eric Legrand

Few actors can boast of having marked so many roles, so many imaginations. In the universe of dubbing, Éric Legrand was not just a voice: he was a pillar. At the Pantheon of French voices, his serious and sharp stamp will remain forever bound to the Prince of Saiyans, Vegeta. But limit your career to Dragon Ball Z would be unfair: he was also Seiya, bronze knight, in Zodiac knightsanother Japanese animation monument from the 80s and 90s.

His vocal palette had no borders. He was the French voice of Owen Wilson in The Grand Budapest Hotel Or The French Dispatchthat of Tom Hanks in certain films, and even a voice in classics like pulp Fiction,, Revelation Now Or Top Gun. Éric Legrand was this kind of actor who knew how to fade to better embody.

The tribute of Patrick Borg, overwhelming, recalls how this profession is based on an often invisible fraternity. “More than 45 years of friendship and 40 years together on Dragon Ball Z. You will miss your fans … But you will especially deeply miss me! I am enough to lose my friends. You have shown exemplary courage, you are a real Sayan Vegeta!”he writes. And we understand, in these few words, the importance that Eric Legrand had for a whole community of professionals. But also for millions of spectators who, without always knowing his name, knew his voice.
