In the world of tech, the announcements of leaks and hacks of accounts and passwords are part of our daily life. If some are sometimes quite vague and not always completely concrete, others are more so. This is the case of what the Kaspersky cybersecurity company reports at the end of May 2025. According to its last report, more than 7 million streaming platform accounts were compromised in 2024.

Netflix, a privileged target of pirates

Kaspersky immediately specifies that accounts and passwords were not collected directly on SVOD’s services, but come from wider data flight campaigns. Of these 7 million, around 5.6 million concern Netflix. If countries like Brazil, Mexico and India are largely the most represented, France still arrives in fourth position from the most compromised countries.

Same thing for Prime Video (1,607 compromised accounts), France being the third country to unveil the most of its data from the Amazon platform. Finally comes Disney+, with almost 7,000 runs on the run, still from the majority from Brazil and Mexico. Apple TV+ and Max are also concerned, but Kaspersky does not reveal the figures.

The report specifies: “The devices that generation Z members use to watch their favorite programs can become entry points for cybercriminals through infections by malware. These threats are often hidden in unofficial downloads, hacked content, browser extensions or compromised applications, silently collecting connection identifiers, session data and other personal information.”To help Gen Z better identify these threats, Kaspersky has also launched an interactive game called 404 box.

In addition to checking whether no suspicious activity has taken place in your account and using an official subscription and application, regularly changing password, with a strong and not used solution elsewhere, is always a good idea. To strengthen and facilitate this last step, using a password manager or even a double authentication connection is always more recommended.
