YouTube authorizes insults in videos but there is a slightly strange obligation

YouTube is above all a participatory video streaming site where each user (professional and private) can create their own universe and share all their videos with others.

The creators had no choice but to avoid all insults under penalty of losing monetization. Many have then decided to adopt sound beeps to cover the swears. Fortunately for them, the moderation of Youtube is therefore relaxed. A condition to respect: wait … 7 seconds.

Wait 7 seconds before all coarse

The creators now have the authorization to use insults, but on one condition: wait 7 seconds at the start of the video. It should not be coarse either “Most part” content.

YouTube explains that “The occasional use of coarse language does not necessarily mean that the video is not suitable for ads”. The platform even established a hierarchy of insults according to their severity. The use of shares as “shit”,, “Fuck” Or “asshole” is accepted.

For the coarser, they must be excluded from any promotional passage. Obviously, homophobic or racist insults remain completely banished from monetization.

YouTube maintains a firm line on hatred speeches, while somewhat liberalizing its rules. Insults are part of everyday language and as long as they insult anyone, the platform tolerates. The good news for some users is that humorous videos and other popular formats with insults regain their monetization.

If the creators are delighted with this change, that does not mean that advertisers adhere to it. Companies that pay to display advertising in videos remain the last decision -makers. And some may avoid associating with creators who use rudeness.
