Here is the “best 35 mm ever designed by Nikon”
After two f/1.2 optics and an impressive 135 mm f/1.8 stamped plena, Nikon opticians take service for exceptional objectives by announcing today the Nikkor Z 35 mm f/1.2 S. An optics presented as the “”Best 35 mm ever designed by Nikon“.
And there is an interest in the bugger: joining the Z 50 mm f/1.2 s and 80 mm f/1.2 s, the 35 mm f/1.2 s is a beautiful baby of 1060 g. And the third 35 mm developed by Nikon for the Z frame after 35 mm f/1.8 s (2018) and the 35 mm f/1.4 launched last year – a brighter version, but less high -end than the F/ 1.8.
High -end optical formula
Designed in 17 lenses organized in 15 groups, the Nikkor Z 35 mm f/1.2 s is an optics that target excellence. Among these lenses, three are aspiring, three are low dispersion (ED) and one that brings together the two characteristics. To guarantee the best path of light, Nikon has literally made an all-in (carpet in the language of poker) of its surface treatments of the lenses: Nano Crystal, Meso Amorphus and Arneo are all there.
This neat optical formula limits, according to the words of Nikon, most of the classic optical defects (flare, colorful fringe, etc.). And offers this 35 mm a minimum focus at only 30 cm. This will allow reporters to make details easily (we think here of journalism, but also of weddings, etc.).
The diaphragm is made up of 11 strips to offer transitions to very progressive blur (Bokeh). Again, reporters from all sides should not only appreciate the separation of the plans inherent in the wide openings – here therefore f/1.2 – but also the sweetness of transitions.
The video is also in the crosshairs
The optical formula has been designed not to cause focus breathing, a parasitic effect of certain optical formulas which modifies the frame according to the focusing distance. A very noticeable defect in video.
Always with this video perspective, Nikon has integrated two steps -to -side engines to quickly and silently move the lenses responsible for the focus.
In terms of ergonomics, the optical barrel incorporates two programmable L-FN buttons. A duo that allows you to easily access the functions, regardless of the type of handling of the housing body. An important deal, especially for users of the big Z9 or Z8 with Grip.
The optics are entirely protected by a horde of seals, a standard for Nikon's professional equipment.
And still happy that this optics are well protected: its price is indeed very high. Launched at € 3,299, its price notes, as its colleagues Nikon opening at F/1.2, as much of the photo as in jewelry! But already offering two 35 mm to F/1.4 and F/1.8, Nikon does not push the crime and offers just with this F/1.2 version, an exceptional model. Whether only professionals who need it – or rich enthusiasts – can pay themselves.
The Nikon Nikkor Z 35 mm f/1.2 s will be available from February 27 at € 3,299.
