Anthropic moves to France: OpenAI’s rival startup intensifies its presence in Europe

Anthropic is an American company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, including Dario Amodei. It focuses on the development of advanced artificial intelligence, including language models similar to ChatGPT.

Known for Claudeits particularity is to emphasize the safety and alignment of AI, that is to say ensuring that artificial intelligences act in a reliable, ethical and predictable way for humans, claims the group.
The company recently began establishing itself in Europewith the opening of offices in France, in order to strengthen its presence on the continent and get closer to European public and private players.
Anthropic arrives in Paris
Anthropic is setting up in Europe, more particularly in Munich (Germany) and Paris. The objective: to strengthen its European presence. To do this, it intends to recruit local talent to gain ground from its rival OpenAI (ChatGPT).
“With a larger, more diverse and highly specialized management team, we are redoubling our efforts for sustained growth in the Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region,” the company said.
Anthropic is recording spectacular growth in this region of the world, with an annualized turnover which has increased ninefold, according to the company, without providing precise figures. This rapid expansion is accompanied by a prestigious client portfolio in France, including major companies such as Sanofi and L’Oréal.
New ambitions and new rivals
Anthropic is experiencing dazzling growth in Europe, with an annual turnover multiplied by more than 9 and the number of its major accounts multiplied by more than 10 in one year. The company, which claims 300,000 professional customers, is valued at $183 billion after raising $13 billion in funds.

However, it faces legal action from rights holders and authors who believe that their works have been used without authorization to train its AI.
In short, there is change in the world of AI, but to be able to carry out its projects, Anthropic will have to compete with a new well-franchised AI: Mistral, which recently became the most valuable startup in the country.
