On the occasion of WWDC 2025, Apple would opt for a big rebranding of its operating systems. While the iPhone would go to iOS 26 instead of iOS 19, the MacBook and Mac would jump MacOS 15 to directly adopt MacOS 26. No matter the denomination, there may be disappointed, given that several models of laptops and office computers would no longer be eligible for updates —Exception made for safety fixes.

What are the MacBook and Mac compatible with MacOS 26?

With MacOS 15Apple had chosen to exclude the 2018 MacBook Air and 2019 from its software update. Unsurprisingly, the next version would in turn abandon some models.

According to information fromAppleinsiderMacOS 26 would only be compatible with the following Macs:

  • Mac Mini M1 and following
  • Mac Studio M1 PRO and following
  • Mac Pro 2019 et seq.
  • IMAC 2020 and following
  • MacBook Air M1 and following
  • MacBook Pro 2019 and following

Result: MacBook Pro 2018, Mac Mini 2018, IMAC Pro 2017 and MacBook Air Intel 2020 would not have access to this new major Apple update. A situation all the more regrettable when we know that the operating system was preparing to get a facelift on the interface side.

We thus note that the support of Apple’s computers rotating under Intel processor is becoming increasingly rare. The only survivors who will have the honor to taste MacOS 26 are indeed the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro of 2019 as well as the iMac 5K of 2020.

Subsequently, MacOS 27 could be the final skimming and long awaited by the apple firm. By abandoning all Intel models, this should allow it to make its operating system more easily and freely develop by focusing only on its architecture as Apple Silicon fleas.
